Gizmo Arts
Platforms for Community + Artists

Now, after more than a decade, that spirit of community, equity, and experimentation moves downtown, into a building with its own layered and storied past.
In 2025, Sanitary Tortilla Factory relocated to the former Gizmo Store building and became Gizmo Arts. Located in the heart of downtown Albuquerque, the Gizmo building has long been a visual anchor in the city’s landscape. Built in 1951, it housed a series of light industrial and commercial uses, formerly a JCPenney’s department store, but became widely known as The Gizmo Store, where it got it’s nickname, a local department store, known for a pink dinosaur outside greeting visitors. The Gizmo store was a uniform shop where city bus drivers, fire and police departments from across the state purchased clothes and work shoes.
By moving into the Gizmo building, sheri and the STF community are expanding square footage and its mission. Gizmo Arts continues the work that started at STF: centering artists, inviting risk and experimentation, building equity into every corner of the structure, and staying grounded in the needs of the local community. The legacy of making, from a restaurant that served as a hub that nurtured the artists, to dinosaur props and protest, continues in this new space.
